AMENDMENTS SUBMITTED TO WIAA

School Districts across Washington State have submitted amendments to WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Athletics Association) targeting their 18.6.0 Gender Identity Participation Policy. ​

Amendment #7 is proposing two categories: OPEN/BOYS (open for any student athlete regardless of sex, identity or expression or other status) and GIRLS (whose biological sex is female)
Amendment#8 is proposing three categories: BOYS (for biological males), GIRLS (for biological females) and OPEN (open regardless sex, identity or expression or other status)

WIAA Representative Assembly (consisting of 53 voting delegates who are coaches, school administrators or school/sports officials) will vote on the amendments.

WIAA is a STATE ACTOR since it is primarily funded by TAXPAYER MONEY.

​The assembly (53 representatives) will vote (via emailed ballot) on the proposed amendments from April 9–18, 2025. An amendment needs 60% approval from voting members to pass, meaning 32 votes. Per WIAA rules, voting delegates CANNOT abstain from voting, only a yes or no vote is allowed.
