The Lynden School District has submitted Amendment No 21 to WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Athletics Association) targeting their 18.6.0 Gender Identity Participation Policy.
Amendment #21 is proposing to replace the boys category as OPEN DIVISION (open for any student athlete regardless of sex, identity or expression or other status) and GIRLS (for students whose biological sex is female). WIAA Representative Assembly (consisting of 53 voting delegates who are coaches, school administrators or school/sports officials) will vote on the amendments. The assembly (53 representatives) will vote (via emailed ballot) on the proposed amendments from April 8–17, 2026. An amendment needs 60% approval from voting members to pass, meaning 32 votes. Per WIAA rules, voting delegates CANNOT abstain from voting, only a yes or no vote is allowed. |
